For crafting ideas, visit SM Davao's three-day Trash to Crafts Product Showcase which opens on June 2 (Wednesday) at the Mall Ground Floor, beside Goldilock's. Discover the fun and learn how to start your craft business at the Trash to Craft Workshop scheduled on June 4 (Friday), 2:00 PM at the Event Centre.

The Trash to Craft Event is a project of SM Cares Committee on Environment as part of SM Supermalls' Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

Also, turn in your recyclable and earn cash! The monthly SM Trash to Cash is set on June 4 and 5 at the Mall's Open Grounds (Parking C, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Scrap buyers accept papers, cartons, plastics, metals and e-wastes.

SM Cares: Gardening 101 for the Elderly

Gardening 101 for the Elderly. Floriculture Industry of Davao, Inc. (FIDI) Past President Vicky Jimenez conducts Gardening 101 workshop for the elderly at SM City Davao last Wednesday. The activity is a project of SM Cares Elderly Committee in cooperation with the City Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.

Summer is the best time for kids to meet new friends and engage in activities that will enhance their knowledge, confidence and personality. JOLLIBEE Davao has been spearheading an annual summer kids’ activities dubbed as “JOLLIBEE KIDDIE SCOUT 2010” wherein Jollibee Kids Club members of 6 to 12 years old were exposed to various activity inside the stores, and learn the Jollibee’s mission, vision and values. Furthermore, it will also be an opportunity for them to learn more about Jollibee’s high food and service quality standards.

At least 400 will be attending the JOLLIBEE KIDDIE SCOUT SUMMER FAMILY PARTY on May 28, 2010 at SM City Davao Event Centre, to gather all Jollibee kids scout and club members. There will be mall mascot parade, Jollytown showdown, game booths, and a special guest celebrity, who is the newest inspirational pop prince and the next young Filipino singing sensation, John Mc Earl.

This event is also open for interested families who want to join the Jollibee Kiddie Scout Summer Family party. Entrance ticket is at P 100.00 per person, inclusive of food, toys, game prizes and game booth entrances. They may just visit any Jollibee Davao Stores. SM Cinekada Search is on!

 Beginning April 30 until June 30, groups of 5 barkadas (with ages 18-25) can post their pictures in the SM Cinema Facebook Account together with a write-up (not more than 200 words) on: (1) why do they watch at SM Cinemas and (2) Why should their group be chosen as the first SM Cinekada.

 Photo entries must be taken at any SM Cinema lobby and uploaded to the SM Cinema Facebook Account. SM Cinema will choose top 20 finalists by the first week of June. SM Cinema fans can then vote for their favorite Cinekada by ‘liking’ the any of the top 20 finalists.

Great prizes await the winners! Plus, the grand prize stars will get the chance to appear on SM Cinema posters and various advertising materials!

IRON MAN to visit SM Davao on May 29!

In Marvel's second part of the Iron Man saga, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), faces pressure from the government and the public to share his technology with the military after it was revealed that he is also the armored superhero. In this fourth and last installment of SHREK: FOREVER AFTER, Shrek (Mike Myers) is unhappy with the monotony of marriage and fatherhood and goes to Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn), who promises to magically give Shrek a day in his old ogre lifestyle if Shrek willingly gives up a day in his childhood. 

However, Shrek doesn't know that Rumpel has been after the throne to Far Far Away ever since Fiona (Cameron Diaz) was locked in the tower and Shrek signing his life away is the perfect opportunity for the crazy little dwarf to take power. 

Since Shrek technically never existed as nobody remembers him, not even Donkey (Eddie Murphy) or Puss (Antonio Banderas), the kingdom has been ravaged by Rumpel, and Fiona has given up on finding a knight in shining armor and become one herself.

FIESTA. Last May 16, SM City Davao opened the celebration of Fiestas in the City 2010, bringing together the most colorful festivals of the region-- Gaginaway of Malita, Caracoles of the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao's Kadayawan, Musikahan of Tagum and Bulawan of Compostela Province. Fiestas in the City will run from May 16-22, culminating with a Grand Sagala Parade on Saturday at 4:00 in the afternoon. SM Davao holds First Techie si Lolo, Techie si Lola

Last April 26 SM City Davao held its first computer and internet workshop for the elderly at the mall's Event Centre. The event aptly called "Techie si Lolo, Techie si Lola" is part of SM Supermalls program for the elderly through the initiative of its social arm SM Cares.

The project aims to empower the elderly in the community through equipping them with knowledge and skills in computer operations and internet browsing. SM Supermalls believe that these skills will help the elderly keep up with times.

"Driven by our commitment to SM's corporate social responsibility, we hope that this project will prove to be beneficial for our participating elderly. They (the elderly) may use their acquired skills in communicating with their loved ones and/or leisurely activities," Mall Manager Lynette Lopez says.

The project was made possible by STI College of Davao who provided desktop computer units for the workshop. Youth volunteers from the Davao Junior Jaycees headed by Aldwin Dumago. SM Supermarket also supported the activity.

SM Davao- DOLE Job Fair posts more than 2,000 registrants

In celebration of the Labor Day, SM Supermalls, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment held a simultaneous Job Fair nationwide.

For Davao City, DOLE XI posted more than 13,000 job vacancies both for local and overseas deployment. Last May 1, the SM Job Fair housed 99 companies and marked more than 2,000 registered job seekers. Online registration was made possible by STI Computer College and Bayantel DSL.

The celebration at the SM Davao Event Centre was capped by the graduation ceremonies of the EntrepreNURSE, a project by initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Board of Nursing-Professional Regulation Commission (BON-PRC), Department of Health (DOH), and Philippine Health Corporation (Philhealth), equipping the health care sector to run their own cooperative within localities. The project aims to introduce a new home health care industry in the country. The ceremonies was graced by the UP Manila College of Nursing Dean Josefina Tuazon.
