The power of pleats at SM

In today’s fashion, details make all the difference.  The full skirt movement we saw in the runways comes with an interesting detail – pleats.  And we have all seen how designers like Nanette Lepore, Nina Ricci, Derek Lam, Jonathan Sauders, and Miu Miu have showcased this look in their Fashion Week runway collections.

The good news is that you too can pick up this trend from the new Ladies Wear collection at the SM Department Store.  And you’ll look pretty in the latest pleat revivals in flowing, lightweight sheer fabrics like crepe and chiffon at SM:

Knife Pleats!  These are pleats that go in the same direction for a sleek, streamlined took.

Sunray or Sunburst Pleats!  Like the rays of the sun, this exuberant feminine look has pleats that are cut smaller on top and get wider towards the bottom for a flared effect.

Accordion Pleats!  Probably the most popular, accordion pleats much like the musical instrument it was named for consist of folds of equal width that alternate in direction. 

When it comes to wearing pleats, it is important to keep balance and proportion in mind, as pleats tend to add some bulk.  It is a good choice to opt for a stronger more vibrant color on the body part you want to emphasize.

Pleated monochrome dresses are also a good alternative, as you don’t have to worry about mixing and matching so much.  A bold dramatic accessory can also do wonders for this look.
