Mochis are balls of ice cream wrapped in a Japanese manju coating. Manju are Japanese confections with a sweet filling and a glutinous outer layer made from pounded rice cakes.
Originally created by a Japanese confectionery company in 1981, it was first made from rice starch and a type of ice milk as a filling. Later, it has evolved to be the globally known ‘mochi ice cream’ sticky rice balls filled with ice cream.
