One of the globally significant events this month of March is the Earth Hour. It is when individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 26, 2011 at 8:30 PM to show their support for environmentally sustainable action.
The event began in Sydney in 2007, with 2 million people switching off their lights. By 2010, Earth Hour had created history as the largest voluntary action with recorded participation across 128 countries and every continent, including the world’s most recognized man-made marvels and natural wonders in a landmark environmental action.
Earth Hour Philippines debuted in 2008 and has since grown into one of the largest annual events in the country, with over 15 million participants in 2010 alone.
While people are encouraged to join the ceremonial switch off on March 26, participants are also called to go beyond the hour in their efforts to protecting the planet.
Recycling is one of the easiest ways to go. The practice helps the planet by diverting landfill deposits, conservation of limited resources like metal and wood, plus, it promotes energy efficiency.
Go beyond the hour at SM City Davao! Turn in your recyclables at the SM Davao Trash to Cash on March 4 and 5 at the Car Park C.
