True to its commitment of providing equal opportunities for all and in alignment to its corporate social responsibility program SM Cares, SM City Davao pooled its front liners—from the mall tenants, affiliates, security and maintenance personnel and the mall administration personnel in a forum on “Caring for Special Customers”.
The activity is part of the program of SM Cares Committee on Disability Affairs which encourages all SM malls nationwide to step-up and provide extra service to the mall’s customers with special needs.
Last November 4, 2009, SM City Davao invited resource speakers to discuss on various types of conditions which mall-goers may have and may need extra service for.
Ms. Marijo Osorio, Head Teacher for Pre School and Inclusive Classroom Programs of the Ebenezer School who is also devoted to helping children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and parents of children with ADHD shared her experiences with her children with the said condition. This gave the audience an overview of how people with ADHD act and in turn, how they can assist them especially when they are in the premises of the mall.
Dr. Manolette Guerrero, Dean of San Pedro College Physical Therapy Department gave a brief lecture on what seizure (epilepsy) is and suggested ways on how to aid customers should they experience attacks while in the mall.
Ms. Elizabeth Degorio, the Regional Focal Person on Persons with Disabilities (PWD) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) further discussed on the law mandates as special considerations to persons with disabilities.
Early this year, SM City Davao also held a similar event focusing on caring for customers with autism, down syndrome and the visually impaired. The mall also hosted this year's Kakayahan Fair and spearheaded the celebration of the White Cane Day.
Mr. Cesar B. Cachero, assistant mall manager of SM City Davao said that SM City Davao will continue to work on improving its services in order to provide a barrier-free environment for the PWDs.
