SM Cares: National Children's Book Reading Campaign set July 20

 

With the advent of cable television, video games and the increasing accessibility to the internet, people have more choices of how they enjoy their time of leisure. Thus, the likelihood of enjoying “reading” has also been curbed.

Amidst the evolution of technology, the value of reading continues to be true and effective. Reading allows people to increase their knowledge, expand personal general culture and stir imagination. It provides an opportunity to discover new ways of expressing one’s ideas and expand one's vocabulary.

The love for books however is not a habit that is formed overnight. Growing and developing the interest takes time. With this, experts advise parents and educators to inculcate the worthwhile habit to kids while they are still young.

On July 20 at 2PM, Tuesday, SM Supermalls across the country celebrates the National Children’s Book Reading Campaign. At SM City Davao, a fun and exciting celebration will be mounted at the Mall’s Event Centre.

There will be book reading sessions with celebrity guests and selected schools. SM Davao is also set to turnover book donations to local Elementary schools during the said occasion.

IMAX opens in SM Cebu!

 After months of excitement for the arrival of the most immersive movie experience, an all out IMAX stickering campaign in key Cebu gas stations and parking lots, a 3D (3Designer, 3DJs, 3Digital Screens) fashion show in the SM City Cebu Northwing Atrium, the cinema lobby of SM City Cebu was transformed into a magnificent hallway of blue and black last July 8, 2010, for the IMAX Theatre Cebu grand launch.

An engaging laser light show signifiying an immersive 3D experience opened the program, followed by special messages from Mr. Edgar Tejerero (Senior Vice President for SM Cinema) and Mr. Don Savant (Vice President and Managing Director for IMAX Asia Pacific), after which the attendees sported their IMAX 3D glasses for a special screening of James Cameron's Avatar in full 3D. During the mini press conference, Tejerero and Savant promise premium movie watching as IMAX Experience is created through a comprehensive suite of intellectual property and technology, and it is the unique combination of these features that impacts what moviegoers see, hear and feel at the movies.

Dignitaries like Ms. Marissa Fernan (Vice President for SM Prime, VisMin), Mr. Francis Solliven (General Manager for Warner Bros.), Ms. Sionee Lagman (Marketing Director for Warner Bros.), Ms. Ella Del Rosario (Marketing Manager for Warner Bros.), Ms. Doris Torres (Marketing Director for Columbia), and Ms. Bernie Cheng (Marketing Director for Walt Disney) graced the occasion.

The most immersive movie experience is now open in SM City Cebu with Leonardo Di Caprio’s Inception in 2D on July 15.

Clash of the Glee Clubs at SM Davao!

The biggest nationwide search for the best show choir is on! SM Supermalls calls on all High School and College pop choral groups to make their rightful marks on center stage.

Groups may be composed of 6-10 members of age 14-19. Application runs until July 23, 1PM.

On the regional rounds, set July 23, competing groups will be asked to perform 2 numbers of pop contemporary songs or a mash up of 2 songs.

Groove Philippines 2010 at SM Davao

The biggest battleground for dance supremacy in the country is back for the fourth straight year.

Groove Philippines, which produced world class dance crews Xtatic, Equizyth and Amplified Hip Hop. The most celebrated dance battle began at SM Pampanga last June 20 and is set to shake SM City Davao on July 24. Winners of the National Finals at SM Mall of Asia on August 14 will represent the Philippines  in the World Supremacy Battle grounds (WSB) in Melbourne Austalia slated in November this year.

Xtatic, which hails from Cagayan de Oro won the inaugural competition in 2007 then went on to win the WSB championship. Equizyth from General Santos City, meanwhile, failed to defend the country’s WSB title as it ended up as runner up the following year. Baguio City’s Amplified Hip Hop, which graced the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) opening ceremonies in their current Fiesta Conference, returned the crown to the country last year. 

“Groove Philippines 2010 promises to be bigger and better than our first three seasons as we expanded the qualifying stages to six. With the support of SM Supermalls, we’re excited to help the youth fulfill their dreams,” Hoopdreamz Phil. Operations Manager Peeya delos Reyes said.

SM Davao opens SM Little Stars Search anew!

SM City Davao is calling all cute, charming and talented boys and girls ages 4-7 within the current year to let their stars shine in the search for the SM Little Stars 2010.

Now on its 4th year, SM Little Stars has become one of the biggest kiddie talent search in the country which gives opportunities for children to travel, meet new friends and hone their talents.

In 2009, Davao Cluster was represented in the national finals by the equally charming and talented pair Tricia Dioso and Josh Obenario.

Both claim to have enjoyed the experience and continue to tell wonderful stories of the journey to being the 2009 SM Little Star.

For SM Davao, audition is set on July 18, Sunday at the Event Centre. Application forms are now available at SM Davao Admin Office while registration will run until 2PM of the audition date.

SM Cinema launches VIP Celebrity Club

SM Cinema will give you more reasons to be star struck with the recent launching of its Celebrity VIP Club at the SM Megamall Cinema 10.

The Club, which was launched during the premiere of I’ll Be There, entitles celebrities, media personalities, and a companion to enjoy SM Cinema and Digital theaters for free. As a member, they no longer need to fall in line for tickets, and can sit in specially indicated seats. They can also have food delivered in the cinema, and have special discounts in the cinema’s Snack Time outlet. They will also receive email updates for movie schedules, promotions, and other perks.
