Ballet Philippines goes Kadayawan, Aug 10!

Joining the Kadayawan celebration at SM City Davao is the country’s top ballet ensemble Ballet Philippines on August 10. Ballet Philippines goes Kadayawan will feature excerpts from the company’s well-loved pieces made possible with the genius of proudly Davao talents.

Moriones. Choreographed by no less than Ms Agnes Locsin, Moriones takes inspiration from the Moriones Festival of Marinduque. The material was originally put together for Ballet Philippines 2’s participation at the Recontres Festival Du Danse in La Baule, France. It also became a study for movement for the Guardias Civil dance for Locsin’s coming Encantada. Full performance was first seen in July 1991, Manila, Philippines.

Pusong Wagas. With the original music by independent music icons Cynthia Alexander and Joey Ayala, Pusong Wagas is an original contemporary ballet based on the legend of the city of Mandaluyong. Set in pre-colonial Manila, the story highlights the exemplary love of Luyong, a gifted carpenter, and Manda, a tribal princess, and their sacrifice in the face of the coming foreign invaders.

As an addition to the 2 powerful numbers, Ballet Philippines is also set to perform lllustrated Dialects which is an exquisite lyrical interpretation of the slow-moving romance of Filipino love songs.

The Kadayawan Phoenix Run is set on August 12

This official run of the Kadayawan Sa Dabaw Festival 2012 will be used as a vehicle to launch a massive awareness campaign on the state of Davao’s watershed.

It is organized to provide a venue for DavaoeƱos to actively participate in the campaign by joining the run and pledge their commitment to become ambassadors of protecting the environment especially our watershed. The run is also a campaign to help the environment by encouraging every runner to practice 3R (Recycle, Re-use, Reduce).

The Phoenix Kadayawan Run 2012 is for the benefit of the Talomo-Lipadas watershed, one of the two watersheds that serve as the main source of water supply in Davao City. As DCWD reveals, Davao City's groundwater is largely dependent on two watersheds, the 235-hectare Malagos watershed in Calinan and the 38,460-hectare Mt. Talomo-Lipadas watershed.

For every runner, one tree shall be planted to help protect and conserve the Talomo-Lipadas watershed. We can act and contribute in our own little way to the watershed area that ensures that  Davao City continues to get safe and potable water. By just running on August 12 you have taken the first step because a tree will be planted in your behalf.

We can make a difference NOW.
