SM Green Film Festival features Sangtuwaryo

 

With the opening of a new academic year, SM Supermalls once again rolls out its Green Film Festival, a project by SM Prime Holdings which provides free screening of environment-themed films for students.

Spreading the environmental advocacy using the visual medium, SM aims to show the beauty of the planet, to teach the value of conserving man's shared resources and to plan and practice environmental efforts towards a sustainable future. Free screenings are available every third Monday and Tuesday of the month.

This year, SM features Sangtuwaryo, a 2009 film by Cebuano artists about blast fishing aims to prod local government units to establish marine sanctuaries.

Sangtuwaryo is an 80-minute film revolving around the life of a poor but scrupulous fisherman who finds himself in a compromising position by engaging in blast fishing when his son falls ill.

The film was written by Corazon Rosales-Jayma and directed by Archie Modequillo and was produced by the Law of Nature Foundation and the Visayan Sea Squadron headed by lawyer Tony Oposa, a 2009 Ramon Magsaysay awardee. Part of the film shows the efforts of residents of Apo Island in Dauin, Negros Oriental, in establishing a marine sanctuary.

Also featured in the festival are the documentaries are State of the Planet and Project Noel.

Wolfgang, Chicosci, Kamikazee, Sandwich and Parokya ni Edgar perform at T5, SM Davao on June 25!

For the 3rd time, Tanduay brings together the biggest line-up of bands ever assembled in Philippine Music History. Tanduay Rhum First Five Concert Tour 2011 features ChicoSci, Kamikazee, Wolfgang, Sandwich and Parokya ni Edgar in 30 cities nationwide. On June 25, the storm hits Davao at the SM City Davao Parking C.

 Wolfgang is expected to be the hardest hitting band on the tour. They can whip up a storm with their tried-and-tested heavy rock anthems and get the crowd singing with their modern classic rock ballads.  Wolfgang will unleash its own brand of anarchy through its signature heavy metal hits, from its wildly successful six albums, that the audience will surely enjoy headbanging with.

 

Chicosci will bring forward a punk-oriented sound that does NOT sound like anything else. The Chicosci sound is very polarizing with their music allowing one to escape to one’s teenage years. Chiscosci’s pop-punk and emo music also adds a different vibe on the concert mood with hits like “7 Black Roses” and “Diamond Shotgun.”

 

 

Sandwich brings the quirk. It’s hard to put a finger on what Sandwich is really trying to do. Sandwich has always been exploring a whole range of rock disciplines. The group that brought the hits “Two Trick Pony,” “Sugod” and “Betamax” will surely bring the audience to alternative rock bliss with their signature type of pop rock.

Kamikazee is one of the biggest bands of the last decade. Their song Narda was the national anthem for almost a year! Kamikazee, known for its classic pinoy rock, mixes their music with comic antics on stage to show the lighter and fun side of rock.

Parokya ni Edgar will surely bring in the beloved sound that has made them the "Pambansang Banda ng Pilipinas", as they perform their popular novelty rock hits like “Harana,” “Picha Pie,” “Buloy,” and “The Yes Yes Show.” People know their songs and the audience will definitely erupt in unison.

Noli Me Tangere at SM Davao on June 20-21

 

In celebration of the 150^th birth anniversary of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the 1961 Gerardo De Leon movie version of Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere will be shown at SM Supermalls nationwide. Gerardo De Leon is the only director in the Philippines who bagged FAMAS Best Director Award for 3 consecutive years.

Screening schedule for SM City Davao will be on June 20-21, 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM, at the Mall Event Centre.

Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere was adapted to the big screen with National Artist for Film Gerardo ‘Gerry’ de Leon at the helm. The cast includes, among others, Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Del Mar as Crisostomo Ibarra, Edita Vital as Maria Clara, Oscar Keesee as Father Damaso, Johnny Monteiro as Father Salvi, Lina Carino as Sisa and Leopoldo Salcedo as Elias. In the supporting roles were Teody Belarmino, Ruben Rustia, Robet Arevalo, Jose Garcia, Lito Anzures, Max Alvarado, Andres Centenera, Ramon D’ Salva, among other ace actors. The movie won the year’s FAMAS Best Picture and Director.

The screening will be sponsored by the German Embassy Manila and the Goethe-Institut in collaboration with SM Supermalls, the Cultural Center of the Philippines among others.

SM Supermalls calls on all cute, charming and talented boys and girls from ages 4-7 years old, within the current year, to join the search for SM Little Stars 2011.

To enter, interested parties may submit  a duly filled-out registration form; original and photocopy of Birth Certificate; and 2 copies of 4R size photos– one close-up, one full body shot (all taken with light make-up); with a single or accumulated P200- worth purchase from SM Department Store Children’s Wear brands. Participating brands include FG Boy/Girl, Beverly Hills Polo Club Boy/Girl, Grizzly, Canadian Club Kids and Kid Jordan. Purchase must be made between June 13 to July 17, 2011.

Over Php 2.5 million in total prizes will be given away with a trip for 2 to Xiamen, China and scholarship grants for the grand winners!

SM Davao’s Cool Clicks: Daddy Photo Contest, is on!

SM Davao calls on all photography enthusiasts—amateur and professionals alike, to submit a photo of Dads and kids bonding time at SM City Davao.

Entries get a chance to win Php 7,000 (Best Photo), Php 5,000 (2^nd Best Photo), Php 3,000 (3^rd Best Photo) and Php 2,000 (Most liked on SM City Davao Facebook Page). Seventeen entries also get a chance to take home Php 500. All prizes are in Sodexho/SM Gift Certificates. 

Interested parties may simply submit a full-color 5R size photo entry and RAW file on a cd together with the registration and release form placed inside a short brown envelope. Forms are available at the Marketing Department of SM Davao Administration Office. Envelopes must be properly labelled with participant name, address, contact number and title of the entry.

Entries will be accepted until June15, 2:00 PM at the Marketing Department, Mall Administration Office, 2^nd Floor of SM City Davao. Winners will be announced on Father’s Day, June 19, 6:00 PM at the Event Centre.
