Joining the SM Supermalls nationwide, SM City Davao mounted last June 12, a celebration of Philippine Independence. The day was marked by a flag hoisting ceremony at the mall’s main entrance with the mall employees in traditional Philippine costumes.

The ceremony opened with a parade of 112 colors participated in by the Boy Scouts (Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School), Rover Scouts, the Davao Horse Club, Filipino-Chinese Firefighters Foundation of Davao Inc., Task Force Davao, the Davao City Police and the SM Davao Security Force. The celebration was also graced by then City Councilor Susabel Reta, representing the Office of the Mayor-elect Sara Duterte.

Other activities were also held in the mall to commemorate the 112th Philippine Independence. Among which were Panlasang Pinoy- a cooking demo of Filipino cuisine at the Foodcourt, Agilaya- the Philippine Eagle Week closing ceremony and the Proud Pinoy Concert- a showcase of local bands featuring OPM hits.
