Filipino solar car comes to Davao!

SIKAT, the second generation Filipino solar-powered car, a product of a dedicated group of faculty and students from the Mechanical Engineering and the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department of De La Salle University-Manila, in partnership with the Philippines Solar Car Society, Inc.
The solar car is on a national tour this January which aims to raise awareness on solar energy, its potentials and the possibilities it offers. Moreover, it seeks to challenge and inspire Filipinos in the field of science and technology.

Although not yet a very practical mode of transportation, the Philippine-made solar car is a testimony that Filipino ingenuity and talent is at par with the rest of the world.

Sinag (the first Filipino solar car) and Sikat, both have bodies made of carbon fiber, making it light enough to achieve higher running speed needed for racing. The cars’ top surface is covered with solar cells manufactured in Laguna, which is also exported to other countries.

SIKAT is set for its Davao leg Roadshow on January 23-26 and will be held on public display on January 23-24 (Saturday-Sunday) at the atrium of SM City Davao.
