Four classrooms for Banisil High from SM and BDO

SM donates school building to Communal

People helping people. SM Foundation Inc. and SM Prime Holdings turned over reference books to Communal Elementary School last February 23. SM also donated a 1-storey, 2-classroom building to the same school. The rooms came complete with toilet facilities, armchairs, teacher’s desks and wall fans to create an environment conducive for holistic learning. SM help ‘light up lives’ in Mt. Apo

Stiftung Solarenergie, an international foundation which pioneers sustainable electrification for rural development, conducted Hike for Light from November 2011 to February 2012.

In partnership with Kaya ng Pinoy’s Team Everest, Hike for Light, supplied solar systems to communities living on the 6 peaks in the Philippines- Mt. Apo, Mt. Dulang-Dulang, Mt. Kanlaon, Mt. Madja-as, Mt. Pulag and Mt. Guiting-Guiting. Hike for Light visited Mt. Apo National Park from February 10-13.

For the group’s Mt. Apo climb, SM Prime and SM Supermalls (through their SM Cares Committee on the Environment) served as Protected Area Sponsors by helping in the park conservation. SM also enabled solar ambassadors to distribute solar lanterns to environmentally-oriented partner-organizations and help them in protecting the country’s highest peak.

Philippine Eagle Foundation, one of the partner-organizations, has utilised the solar lanterns as an incentive for reforestation efforts. Families received a 0.25-hectare plot with 250 seedlings each. Twenty families with the most number of successful seedlings planted received a solar lantern.

Hike for Life also distributed 44 lanterns to United Sugarcane Planters Development Cooperative (USPDC) to be used for disaster risk reduction and emergency response operations. Sitio Sabwag, which is located at the jump-off point for Mt. Apo received 2 solar lanterns as well.

The Manila String Machine performs at SM Davao, Feb 12

Valentines is sweeter at SM City Davao!

The country’s top string musicians play music for the heart and soul this Valentine weekend at SM Davao. On February 12, The Manila String Machine, a quartet composed of 3 violinists—Ferdie Dumlao, Silke Hipolito and Rommel Camba; and one cellist—Theodore Amper, is set to make everyone fall in love with their music.

The four members of the group, products of the UP College of Music, are actively involved in professional orchestras. The ensemble regularly performs symphonic and classical pieces with foreign artists, as part of their musical discipline and profession in concerts nationwide and abroad, as well.

This Valentines, SM City Davao brings exquisite melody for everyone.

Experience a unique kind of music, from classical to rock with stringed instruments! Enjoy Manila String Machine’s edgy renditions of pop and classical favourites specially arranged for the string ensemble.
